industrial storage architectural project

d-v industrial storage unit

The conceptual design proposal for the renovation and conversion of an existing, dilapidated chicken shed, on an operating chicken farm, into an industrial storage facility.

The proposed exterior envelope of the storage shed consists of a low concrete block wall plinth spanning in between the new steel portal frame structure. A sheet metal cladding system is layered and wrapped over the portal frame to form the roof and remainder of the walls. The use of different colours and the size and positioning of openings helps to create a visually playful an aesthetically pleasing façade.

The storage shed can either be treated as one facility, or it can be split into smaller individual  operating units. The functional layout of four individual units are illustrated in this proposal. Each unit has a loading area, a security checkpoint, storage space with access routes, ablution facilities, and a suspended mezzanine office deck with access to an exterior viewing deck offering views of Table Mountain towards the south.
